Richard Alan Searle wrote songs, played bass and sang in local bands as a teenager in the north-east of England. He went on to study composition with John Casken at the University of Durham, and with Gary Carpenter at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His later adventures in collaborative writing and theatre led to a period of work as an actor. Richard returned to music in recent years through songwriting, and released an instrumental EP, The Soft Release, in late 2018.
